Juvenile arthritis
This is a condition where there is an inflammation of the synovium, the tissue that lines the inside of the joints. Juvenile arthritis normally affects children who are 16 years and younger.
Juvenile Dermatomyositis
This is an autoimmune inflammatory disease of the muscle (myositis), skin, and blood vessels. It causes symptoms ranging from mild muscle weakness to severe symptoms such as profound weakness or difficulty swallowing and a distinctive skin rash.
Scleroderma
This refers to a group of rare diseases that affects the connective tissues and the vascular system, resulting in the hardening and tightening of the skin and connective tissues.

Systemic Lupus Erythematosus
This is an autoimmune disorder where the immune system attacks its own tissues, causing inflammation in the connective tissues, such as the cartilage and the lining of the blood vessels.
Sarcoidosis
This is a multisystem disorder that affects one or more organs in the body, such as the lungs, lymph glands and joints. This results in the formation of abnormal lumps or nodules called granulomas in one or more organs.
Vasculitis
This refers to a group of diseases that causes inflammation of the blood vessels, the tubes that are responsible for carrying blood around the body.
Pain Amplification Syndromes
This is a medical condition where a child develops an abnormal pain sensitivity.

A paediatric rheumatologist is a doctor that cares for children and adolescents with medical conditions such as inflammatory and non-inflammatory musculoskeletal disease and autoimmune diseases. Autoimmune inflammatory diseases include juvenile dermatomyositis, juvenile Idiopathic arthritis, vasculitis, scleroderma, systemic lupus erythematous and periodic fever syndromes.
